Changjiang Flood Forecasting Assistance Project

In 2003, the Swiss Government has been showing its willingness to assist CWRC in dealing with floods. Start from 2004, a joint project “Changjiang Flood Forecasting Assistance project” is set up between Swiss Federal Office for Water and Geology (FOWG), the MFB-GeoConsulting GmbH (for remote sensing support), the ETH (for hydrological modeling support) and CWRC.

The main objectives are: to construct a satellite (NOAA/ AVHRR) remote sensing information receiving system, a geographical information and image processing system, a LAN; to carry out researches based on distributed hydrological models to establish flood forecasting system and to strengthen capacity building (training on GIS, remote sensing and hydrological models).

The implementation of this project shows greatly potential in enhancing the technology of obtaining and processing flood regulation information, improving the comprehensive capability of flood forecasting and promoting advancements in hydrological forecasting and its techniques for CWRC.
