On behalf of the water ministry,

the major responsibilities tasks of BOH are:
， Organizing/coordinating hydrological activities on
major rivers (river stretches) in the Changjiang (Yangtze)
River basin
， Supervising regional/local hydrological works in the
basin
， Managing monitoring networks including planning, construction
and management of hydrological, water resources, river-channel
and water quality gauges
， Collecting data on hydrology, river-channel, sediment
and water quality
， hydro-meteorological forecasting
Main activities:
， hydrological and water resources monitoring and assessment
， water resources evaluation, water environment monitoring
， river-channel (including reservoirs, lake and estuary)
surveying, sediment observation
， river-channel change analysis
， calculation and analysis of sedimentation in reservoirs,
lakes and river channels
， hydrological analysis and calculation and hydrological
telemetry system construction

Social benefits accomplished:
， Took charge of compiling over ten national hydrological
standards and professional standards and organizing
water resources investigation and evaluation in the
Changjiang River basin
， Provided reliable and accurate data and research results
of flow forecasts, hydrological analysis and calculation,
sedimentation measurements, water quality monitoring
and water resources investigation and evaluation
， contributed significantly to the flood control and
disaster reduction in the basin, to the design, construction
and responsibilities of large and medium scale water
development projects
， collected hydrological measurement data of over 24000
station/years of fairly complete series
